What to expect before, during, and after treatment

Before your treatment it is a good idea to prepare your space and clear your head for a bit. Light a candle, burn incense, play soft music....whatever would help you relax before and during treatment. Make sure your space is a place you will not be disturbed. Being prepared for the session make it much more enjoyable for you to recieve the healing energy of Reiki.

During your treatment it is ok to speak or be silent. It is which ever is a more pleasant experience fo the individual. Speaking to your practitioner during the treatment in no way effects the flow of the healing energy.

During treatment you might feel any of these things:  'I feel very refreshed and seem to be thinking more clearly." "I think I fell asleep." "I feel warm'''I feel cold' "I feel more relaxed than even after a massage." "My headache is gone." These are some of things people typically say after a Reiki session.

People often comment how comforting they find the experience of Reiki to be. An interesting study reported that recipients frequently feel that they are hovering in a threshold state of consciousness, simultaneously aware of their surroundings and deeply indrawn. Some people fall into a deep, sleeplike meditative state. Sometimes the experience of Reiki is dramatic, while for other people, the first session in particular may be uneventful, although they feel somehow better afterward. The most common experience is an almost immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation.

While you are relaxing with your eyes closed during the Reiki treatment you may see colors, symbols, or a person or animal. All this is normal and could be a message to you. Talk to your practitioner for insight into any of this. If you felt or experienced nothing during your session.....it is ok!! This is normal and be assured you recieved your healing Reiki as long as you were willing to accept it. You may not be aware of the feelings or changes. Reiki is cumulative and even people who don't notice much the first time usually have progressively deeper experiences if they continue. Besides the immediate experience of the Reiki, you may notice other changes that continue to unfold as the day goes on: perhaps stronger digestion, a sense of being more centered and poised and less reactive, and sleeping deeply that night. Make sure to drink plenty of water the day of your Reiki session.

After treatment you may notice some unexpected feelings or side effects of the treatment. This is know as a healing crisis. Healing from Reiki is not just physical. It is emotional and Spiritual as well. Things and feelings may come to surface over the next few days that you would not expect. Just know that this is a normal part of the healing process. Know that this will pass and you will feel much better when it is over.
